LATIN NAME: LAGERSTROEMIA INDICA 'PIILAG-V'

The Basics

Colorama™ Scarlet Red Crape Myrtle is a vibrant deciduous shrub admired for its brilliant scarlet-red blooms and compact growth habit. From summer through early fall, large clusters of vivid flowers create a spectacular display of color while attracting butterflies and other pollinators to the garden. Its attractive green foliage transitions to beautiful shades of orange and red during the fall, providing multiple seasons of interest. Because of its smaller size, this variety is ideal for foundation plantings, borders, containers, and accent gardens.

The Needs

Amount of Sunlight: Prefers full sun.

Amount of Water: Requires regular watering while becoming established but becomes drought tolerant once mature.

Soil Conditions: Prefers well-drained soil and adapts well to a variety of soil conditions.

Cold Hardiness Zone: 6–9

The Care

Colorama™ Scarlet Red Crape Myrtle thrives in warm, sunny locations and benefits from a layer of mulch to help retain moisture and regulate soil temperature. Once established, it requires minimal maintenance and displays excellent resistance to common diseases such as powdery mildew. Light pruning during late winter or early spring will encourage vigorous growth and abundant flowering throughout the growing season.
