Ebbingei Elaeagnus

from $7.08

LATIN NAME: ELAEAGNUS X EBBINGEI

The Basics

This fast-growing, hardy evergreen shrub is round and produces creamy white fragrant blooms in late fall with reddish-brown fruit. When the leaves are young, they are green with touches of silver. As the leaves age and mature, they turn dark green on top and maintain their silver-gray beneath. This spineless shrub reaches 8-10 feet (8-10 feet wide). Best performs as a specimen and in masses to form a wind break, hedge, or screen. It is also known as oleaster and Ebbing's Silverberry.

The Needs

Amount of Sunlight: Full sun; tolerates shade

Amount of Water: Water regularly; more frequent watering in extreme Heat; Drought tolerant

Soil Conditions: Prefers medium moisture, well-drained soil with high organic matter content

Cold Hardiness Zone: 7-9

The Care

This low-maintenance evergreen needs a regular water schedule to ensure the growth of a mature root system. The first year of growth requires watering weekly. After the mature root system is established, watering is needed occasionally, except during a drought, watering is needed regularly. Shear annually to maintain desired shape.
