LATIN NAME:Musa acuminata 'Dwarf Cavendish'
Dwarf Cavendish Banana is a fast-growing tropical plant prized for its lush, broad green foliage and ability to produce delicious, sweet bananas in warm climates. Its compact size makes it an excellent choice for home gardens and landscapes where a full-sized banana plant may be too large.
The plant's dramatic tropical leaves create an instant island-inspired appearance, while mature plants can produce clusters of edible bananas under the right growing conditions. Dwarf Cavendish performs especially well in warm, humid climates and can be grown both in the landscape and in large containers.
Amount of Sunlight: Prefers full sun; approximately 6–8 hours of direct sunlight encourages vigorous growth and fruit production.
Amount of Water: Requires regular watering and performs best with consistently moist soil. Avoid allowing the soil to remain waterlogged.
Soil Conditions: Prefers fertile, rich, well-drained soil with plenty of organic matter.
Cold Hardiness Zone: 9–11
Dwarf Cavendish Banana thrives in warm, humid conditions and benefits from regular watering and feeding during the growing season. Applying mulch around the root zone helps retain moisture, regulate soil temperature, and protect the shallow root system.
Protect the plant from freezing temperatures and strong winds, which can damage its large leaves. After a mature stalk produces fruit, that stalk naturally dies back and can be removed at the base, allowing new shoots, or "pups," to continue growing from the root system.
