$19.08

LATIN NAME:LAGERSTROEMIA

The Basics

Thunderstruck™ Ruby™ Crape Myrtle is a stunning deciduous ornamental tree admired for its brilliant ruby-red blooms and dramatic, near-black foliage. This fast-growing variety produces large clusters of vibrant flowers from summer through early fall, creating an eye-catching contrast against its dark leaves. Its upright growth habit and exceptional disease resistance make it an excellent choice for accent plantings, privacy screens, borders, and focal points throughout the landscape. It typically reaches 12 to 18 feet in height and 8 to 10 feet in width.

The Needs

Amount of Sunlight: Prefers full sun.

Amount of Water: Requires regular watering while becoming established but is drought tolerant once mature.

Soil Conditions: Prefers well-drained soil and adapts well to a variety of soil types.

Cold Hardiness Zone: 6–9

The Care

Thunderstruck™ Ruby™ thrives in warm climates and benefits from a layer of mulch around the base of the plant to help retain moisture and protect the root system. Its excellent resistance to powdery mildew and leaf spot makes it easier to maintain than many traditional crape myrtles. Light pruning in late winter or early spring will encourage vigorous growth while maintaining its attractive shape. Because it blooms on new growth, annual pruning will not interfere with flowering.
